Tiedra is a small village in the province of Valladolid, Spain, with a population of just 283 inhabitants according to the National Institute of Statistics. It’s a place where more and more beekeepers are producing exquisite lavender honey, and where vast lavender fields stretch across the landscape.

The fields burst with deep mauve tones and a strong, soothing aroma. Tiedra’s lavender fields are often called “the little Provence of Valladolid.” The best time to visit is July, when the lavender is in full bloom.

Although perhaps less famous than the fields of Brihuega (Guadalajara), Tiedra’s lavender fields are equally breathtaking. Over the past few years, lavender farming has flourished in the Montes Torozos region of Valladolid..

Here, you’ll find two varieties: true lavender and lavandin — both of which attract aromatherapy enthusiasts and selfie lovers alike every July. There’s no better setting for an unforgettable summer photo than in the heart of a vibrant lavender field.

Tiedra Leads the Way

When it comes to lavender, Tiedra is a pioneer. Seventeen years ago, the village started with a small lavender crop as an alternative to cereal farming. Today, more than 400 hectares are dedicated to lavender cultivation, and new fields are added every year.

Between photo sessions among the purple fields, be sure to visit the Tiedra Lavender Interpretation Center — the first center in Spain dedicated entirely to lavender — located at the entrance to the village.

The center offers insights into the plant’s uses and properties while surrounding you with its enchanting aromas.

Next to the building, you’ll find a distillery for extracting essential oils, where experimental varieties of lavender are also cultivated.

After touring the Lavender Interpretation Center — guided visits last about an hour — head out to the fields for breathtaking photographs.

The best time to visit is in the late afternoon, when the light is at its most flattering. Just be mindful of the bees returning to their hives at that hour!
