A deep mauve color and a strong, soothing balsamic aroma \u2014 this is what defines the lavender fields of Tiedra, a village in Valladolid province that boasts its very own \"Provence.\"\nJuly is the best time to visit.<\/h2>\n

Perhaps not as famous as the the lavender fields of Brihuega in Guadalajara,<\/a>but equally stunning, the lavender crops of the Montes Torozos region in Valladolid have flourished in recent years.\nTwo varieties thrive here: true lavender and lavandin, attracting aromatherapy enthusiasts and selfie lovers alike each July. There's no more beautiful spot for a summer photo than among a field of lavender in full bloom.<\/p>\n

Tiedra leads the way in lavender cultivation. This small village began 15 years ago with a small crop as an alternative to cereal farming. Today, over 400 hectares are dedicated to lavender, and more are added each year.<\/p>\n

Before heading out to the fields and snapping countless photos, it\u2019s worth visiting the Tiedra de Lavanda Interpretation Center (tiedradelavanda.es), the first center in Spain devoted entirely to lavender, located at the entrance to the village.\nThe center offers a deep dive into this fascinating plant: its varieties, cultivation methods, and how its aromatic oils are extracted. Next to the building stands a distillery for essential oil extraction and a trial field testing different lavender varieties.<\/p>\n

Visitors can explore the Interpretation Center on their own or join a guided tour of about one hour, where an expert guide unveils all the secrets of this plant, renowned for its beneficial properties. The visit also includes a tour of the distillery and the variety trial fields.<\/p>\n

Once fully informed, it's time to head out to the lavender fields that surround the village. The tourist office and the Interpretation Center both provide maps and directions.\nVisiting at sunset offers a magical experience thanks to the beautiful light \u2014 the perfect time for breathtaking photos. And good news: by late afternoon, bees (there are several hives in the area) are less active.<\/p>\n

To extend the memory of this sensory journey, visitors can purchase lavender-themed products at the Interpretation Center: soaps, scented sachets, lavender honey, creams, perfumes, and dried lavender flowers \u2014 a fragrant souvenir of the perfumed lands of Castile.<\/p>\n
